WelcomeEdit

Thanks for your contributions. We hope you'll stick around and become a regular editor here.

There is plenty to do and there are many ways you can improve the wiki.
New information is always welcome in any article, but here are some specifics if you need ideas:

Or check out these general pages:

UnlockablesEdit

Nice edits all around, and very nice work on the Unlockables in SRTT article. I've been meaning to process the unlockables data file and add the rest of the unlockables to the article, but haven't had time yet. Here's the file, I hope you find it useful. --452 23:53, January 10, 2012 (UTC)

SprayEdit

Spray is actually linked from multiple articles deliberately. It's a valid vehicle weapon name, we just don't have an article for it yet. --452 08:43, January 11, 2012 (UTC)

Links in headings.Edit

Do not put links in headings. 452, 2012-02-06T08:03:56Z

Ah.. ok
TheMoonLightman, 2012-02-06T08:14:32Z

Odd charactersEdit

Please do not add {C or &nbsp to articles. 452, 2012-02-12T00:43:30Z

OK, understood.

renaming Bmp file as jpgEdit

Two files you have uploaded were bmp files with fake jpg extensions. Please do not change file extensions like this.

  • File:SaintsRowTheThird_2012-01-22_14-04-53-25.jpg has been deleted and reuploaded as File:TheMoonLightman_userpage_SaintsRowTheThird_2012-01-22_14-04-53-25.png

Russian Saints Row WikiEdit

I was looking around at other wikis, and noticed there's a Russian Saints Row Wiki, so I thought you may be interested.

It's http://ru.saintsrow.wikia.com/ - it's still quite small, and there's only a couple of other users, so they definitely need more active contributors.

You're welcome to just copy content from here and translate it into Russian, but if you do, please remember to attribute the source, since translations are classed as a "derivative work" under the license.

Hopefully you'll also stay active here, of course. :)

Well maybe when I have time, I might work on it ;)

ReferencesEdit

Nice work adding mission references recently!

I notice you're mostly replacing {{ref?}} tags. A trick I sometimes use to find other references to add is to look at Special:WhatLinksHere, such as Special:WhatLinksHere/Maero, which shows all other articles which link to Maero. :)

SRIV screenshotsEdit

Thanks :)

I can't figure out how to add this info from this website.Edit

http://terminalgamer.com/2013/08/16/saints-row-iv-hail-to-the-awesome-weapons/ Ftwrthtx, 2013-08-17T07:33:24Z

See Help:Cite about adding references.
And about adding links in references like you've mentioned, copy this: {{ref| [http://terminalgamer.com/2013/08/16/saints-row-iv-hail-to-the-awesome-weapons/ Hail to the Awesome Weapons]}} and paste this in the article where you want to use this link as reference. You can change "Hail to the Awesome Weapons" to any other description.
TheMoonLightman, 2013-08-17T08:03:47Z
How can I add the YouTube video somewhere that shows the weapons in use?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QIKoqNRgElg
Ftwrthtx, 2013-08-17T17:12:56Z
Adding youtube videos is currently disabled as per our video policy, mainly because we've had a lot of trouble in the past with videos being removed from youtube. And also with people adding videos, but not adding any text describing what happens in the videos.
Text descriptions and images are preferred, because text and images are both hosted here, and are easier to edit than a video.
I use http://keepvid.com to download videos in high quality, then take screenshots in PNG format. I recommend Media Player Classic (alt-i to take a screenshot)
While something like the Abduction Gun certainly looks better animated, a good screenshot showing the effects gets the point across just as well.
452, 2013-08-17T17:23:05Z (last edited: 452, 2013-08-18T18:46:50Z)
But it's still okay to use youtube videos as references, of course.

Parent FilterEdit

Hi, TheMoonLightman!

I wanted to swing by and let you know of a new feature we've recently released for interested sites. It's called the Parent Filter and can be accessed through adding /wiki/MediaWiki:ParentFilter to the end of the site's url.

The purpose is two-fold: 1) to provide information to parents about the site's subject from people who are actually very familiar with the content and 2) to eventually provide a home or hub for all such pages parents can visit.

Here's a great example of the feature put to use.

You can learn more about it here. Feel free to throw any questions or comments you might have into that blog.

Best regards,

Raylan

C.I.D. lotEdit

Nice find!

I counted them - there's 31. :) 452, 2013-11-24T19:58:01Z

Nice job! I'm curious if there are other Easter Eggs like those C.I.D.s.
TheMoonLightman, 2013-11-25T04:19:44Z
Very possibly!
I think it's interesting that that lot was a Gang Operation in SRTT, and The Penetrator is where a Collectible was - other locations from SRTT might have stuff.

the luchadores bulldogEdit

hi themoonlightman tell how to have the luchadores bulldog in Saints Row IV 88.122.106.10, 2014-01-15T21:19:05Z

Hey. Read this blog. The Luchadores Bulldog's name there is "bulldog_luchadore".
TheMoonLightman, 2014-01-16T03:00:08Z
this blog is a list of all the vehicule and their variante but we can do this in Saints Row IV on Xbox 360 ? PC ?
Johnny Gat08, 2014-01-16T06:31:47Z
You can do this on PC, but I'm not sure about Xbox.

Gallery replacementsEdit

(I thought we had already discussed it in the chat, but maybe I'm mis-remembering it.)

In most cases, I only approved my bot script to make automated gallery upgrades if there were other issues on that page to be fixed, because I felt there is not actually any need to edit pages solely to replace the gallery.

If you really feel that it is necessary to update every gallery, I can just run the bot script again to automatically replace all of them. 452, 2014-04-11T03:26:27Z (last edited: 452, 2014-04-11T03:28:10Z)

Yeah alright. Maybe running the script to fix br tags would be great too.
TheMoonLightman, 2014-04-11T03:39:39Z
There's definitely no need to automatically replace all of those.
edit: Although, on the topic of those, some infoboxes already replace commas with br for display (neighborhoods for vehicles is one place) - I should probably upgrade all infoboxes do do that for every field, and that way we can just use commas in infoboxes.

Interwiki linksEdit

I noticed you changed an external link to an interwiki link.

  • [http://redfaction.wikia.com/wiki/Mr._Toots Mr. Toots]
  • [[w:c:redfaction:Mr. Toots|Mr. Toots]]

What is the benefit of using interwiki links rather than external links? 452, 2014-08-27T04:12:38Z

An interwiki link is shorter than an external one. There is no real benefit – that's just the way how I usually link the words.
TheMoonLightman, 2014-08-27T04:18:52Z
Meta:Help:Interwiki_linking only lists disadvantages.
In particular, it notes that Special:LinkSearch doesn't work with interwiki links.
I contacted Wikia Staff a while ago about it, and they were unable to come up with any other benefits than "shorter wikitext" either.
452, 2014-08-27T04:23:29Z (last edited: 452, 2014-08-27T04:24:11Z)
I didn't know about searching interwiki links until now, thanks for sharing!
Perhaps I have learned something today.
TheMoonLightman, 2014-08-27T04:29:27Z
I've also just left a message with someone who runs a bot which replaces external Wikia links with interwiki links to see if he knows of any other reasons.
I've been meaning to ask him about it for a while now, but kept forgetting about it.
If he can't come up with a good reason to use them, I think we should use external links instead.
452, 2014-08-27T04:33:20Z
He can't, and neither can anyone on Community Central, apparently.
452, 2014-09-12T06:36:20Z

ShillelaghEdit

It's supposed to say "A Shillelagh is a type of Irish Club."

Club as in a weapon.

The existing wikipedia link, "Shillelagh", clearly says

The word shillelagh can mean
Shillelagh (club), a type of hand weapon

452, 2014-09-17T02:27:12Z (last edited: 452, 2014-09-17T02:27:46Z)

Perhaps I misunderstood the whole phrase "A Shillelagh is a type of Irish Club." then. Thanks for explanation.

JusticeEdit

With File:Destroyed Justice after watching a cutscene in Saints Row 2.png, does this happen after any particular or cutscene, or does this happen after watching any cutscene? 452, 2014-10-14T11:22:45Z (last edited: 452, 2016-03-29T08:45:03Z)

I tried this image with "Vacation's Over" but any cutscene will do. Or you can try starting a mission because they usually trigger a cutscene.
TheMoonLightman, 2014-10-14T11:33:34Z
And it only seems to happen with a Justice? Does it need to be parked there or does anywhere work?
452, 2014-10-14T11:37:16Z
It can happen with any vehicle you have entered last time (I used Justice because it was the first in the garage list) - I could take an image of each vehicle but this would be too much.
The vehicle shouldn't be parked far away from the crib/mission location because there's a chance for the vehicle to disappear. In fact, it will usually disappear after 1-2 minutes even if The Protagonist is standing on the vehicle.
TheMoonLightman, 2014-10-14T11:42:13Z
Ah, that's interesting, I've never seen a last-used-vehicle ever disappear.
Can you can get in it and drive it like normal?
452, 2014-10-14T11:43:40Z
Apparently because any destroyed vehicle would disappear after a few minutes (something I have never tried), the destroyed-after-the-cutscene one would too. And because this one is also "destroyed" it can be neither driven nor destroyed.
This whole destroyed-after-the-cutscene vehicle thing is something I discovered in 2011 but wasn't familiar with Wikia back then and didn't add it. :(
TheMoonLightman, 2014-10-14T11:47:17Z (last edited: TheMoonLightman, 2014-10-14T11:49:15Z)
Thank you, it was unclear it if it actually "destroyed" or "in a damaged state".
Can it be blown up?
452, 2014-10-14T11:48:58Z (last edited: 452, 2014-10-14T11:49:17Z)
As I said in the previous message, "it can be neither driven nor destroyed" - it's a no.
TheMoonLightman, 2014-10-14T11:50:47Z
Have you fired a rocket at it?
452, 2014-10-14T11:52:02Z
I have fired around 1000 bullets from various weapons but not rockets - I'll most likely test this tomorrow but I don't expect to blow any vehicle up with a RPG.
TheMoonLightman, 2014-10-14T11:53:33Z
Thank you for adding that you must destroy the vehicle before watching the cutscene - this makes the whole situation make more sense, and explains why I was unable to replicate it.
452, 2014-10-14T21:08:28Z
I see I forgot to mention destroying the vehicle before watching a cutscene when replying to this thread before.
No problem, btw.

File RedirectsEdit

Brotherhood LegionsEdit

I just took a Brotherhood Legion to Rim Jobs, but Industrial Rims aren't available, are you sure about this? 452, 2014-11-04T18:22:16Z

I reworded the sentence.
If you try to make a Brotherhood Legion spawn, there's a chance that some of them will have Industrial Rims which cannot be set via Rim Jobs.
TheMoonLightman, 2014-11-04T22:47:09Z

Regarding Template:SicEdit

Template:sic exists for the purposes of noting that words are intentionally mispelled, and the word {{sic}} itself links to wikipedia which explains what the word means.

For this reason, I don't think that an HTML comment is needed in this case. It's possible it will (edit: work), but I think if people want to ignore the {{sic}}, then they're probably going to ignore the HTML comment too. 452, 2014-11-22T13:14:28Z (last edited: 452, 2014-12-21T06:26:24Z)

It is possible but the best thing is to see if they are actually going to ignore any warnings left on the page.
TheMoonLightman, 2014-11-22T22:48:04Z

Reward imageEdit

What was the purpose in moving File:The Real World reward - Cache.png from the reward gallery to the main gallery? 452, 2014-11-30T05:15:53Z

I moved it similar to how all Cash reward images in SRTT mission articles are in the main gallery.
TheMoonLightman, 2014-11-30T05:20:09Z
Do you know of any benefit in having them in the main gallery rather than the reward gallery?
452, 2014-11-30T05:46:44Z

Disappearing references sectionsEdit

About a month ago, you mentioned in the chat that the references section had disappeared from ...and_a_Better_Life.

Since then, I've noticed the same and similar problems occurring with many other articles, including Shaundi and Jane Valderama, and Wikia Staff filed a bug report.

However, over the last few days I've been unable to reproduce the glitch. Wikia Staff say they haven't changed anything, and I have confirmed that it wasn't any of my recent changes to the Ref template.

If you see a references section disappear again, please let me know without purging the page so I can update Wikia Staff that it is still happening. 452, 2014-12-10T04:53:49Z (last edited: 452, 2014-12-10T04:54:42Z)

Ok, thanks for the heads up.
TheMoonLightman, 2014-12-10T04:56:56Z
I still haven't seen this happening since then, how about you?
Edit: not long after I left this message, I got email notifications about both the Pierce and VC pages being added to the References without Descriptions category, which happens when this bug happens, so apparently it is still sometimes happening.
452, 2015-04-26T16:42:13Z (last edited: 452, 2015-04-26T17:44:56Z)
The three pages you linked to in your message look ok to me (with all sections appearing, etc.). Pierce and Veteran Child (character) also have References sections on their place.
TheMoonLightman, 2015-04-27T04:59:30Z
This is not an issue with any particular page.
I am not asking you if those specific pages look okay, I was asking you if you have ever noticed this over the past 5 months.
edit: However, as I mentioned in my edit to my previous post, I received emails proving that is it still occurring soon after I asked.
452, 2015-04-27T05:03:26Z (last edited: 452, 2015-04-27T05:07:50Z)

Youtube ReferencesEdit

I have fixed the three references that you broke.

For future reference, the usage for the youtube parameter of {{ref}} is youtube=(id), so

{{ref|youtube=0ibUe2MrT30|''Saints Row: The Third'' - Streaking Mini-game}}

instead of

{{ref|youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ibUe2MrT30|''Saints Row: The Third'' - Streaking Mini-game}}

Category:Broken references lists broken references as soon as they occur, and is available through Category:Maintenance. 452, 2015-01-16T14:22:02Z (last edited: 452, 2015-12-13T16:38:50Z)

Edit SummariesEdit

Please use more accurate edit summaries.

You used the edit summary "No incorrect subtitles", when in fact there was an incorrect subtitle, and you fixed it. 452, 2015-02-22T05:59:49Z

Okay then.
This one was close to accurate though, I've fixed a mistake and now there's no incorrect subtitles. I'll be more careful from now on.

Style comparisonEdit

Which do you see? http://saintsrow.wikia.com/Benjamin_King?diff=240337&oldid=239268

  • Example_ben_king.png
  • Example_ben_king_bad.png

I've always seen similar to the first one, but I'm currently seeing the second one.

The weird thing is, on one computer (A), I see the second one in both chrome and firefox, and on another computer (B), I see the first one in both chrome and firefox.

I uninstalled and reinstalled chrome and firefox on computer A, but I still see the second one.

I can't tell if it's a wikia change, or my computer is messed up today, or if browser has always showed it to me "wrong".

edit: I'm mostly talking about how the text in the diff is thinner, btw. (And it looks different on other wikis due to us using font-size 13 here, instead of font-size 14.) 452, 2015-03-05T01:18:35Z (last edited: 452, 2015-03-05T01:21:21Z)

I have always seen the first one.
The only thing I noticed is the text being smaller in the edit menu but apparently it's a Wikia change.
TheMoonLightman, 2015-03-05T06:01:55Z
Definitely something wrong with my computer then, thanks!

Upcoming TemplateEdit

On 2014-08-05, you removed the {{Upcoming}} template from The Saints Wing.

I noticed today that it still contained pre-release information which had not been updated, and contained this line

Numerous times, during the gameplay videos for the mission, the screen exhibits "glitch" effects seen within the simulation, although this mission is supposed to take place in the real world.

This line should have been updated before removing that template to reflect that it happens in the released game.

While true, the wording was added pre-release, when gameplay videos were all that were available - keeping this wording after removing the Upcoming template implies that it only occurred in gameplay videos and not in the actual game.

In future, please do not remove the Upcoming template from articles unless you have updated or verified all pre-release information. 452, 2015-07-03T17:14:24Z (last edited: 452, 2016-03-27T16:01:34Z)

Baggage TrailerEdit

Does the Baggage Trailer spawn on this parking spot?

Baggage Trailer on parking spot

452, 2015-11-08T19:09:40Z

If I remember correctly, it spawned right after I suicided at the airport while driving a Bag Boy with attached trailer.
So... if you do the same, it may spawn for you as well.
TheMoonLightman, 2015-11-09T03:32:43Z
Thanks for the info, it worked on the very first try: same conditions, I set off a Satchel Charge while driving the Bag Boy with trailer. But I suspect it would work when respawning after any death in that hood.
I got a Knoxville in that spot, and a Baggage Trailer on the other side. While I was looking at the Knoxville, the trailer disappeared, and then I turned back around and the Knoxville was gone too.
Based on those two things, I suspect it occurs due to using the wrong hood's vehicle spawning data when respawning at the hospital, so it could probably also trigger other non-barrio vehicles to spawn there, or other hospitals. The Baggage Trailer is probably the most unusual effect of the glitch, as you wouldn't normally notice other out-of-hood vehicles.
452, 2015-11-09T03:47:04Z
My next 4 attempts haven't been as successful as that first one.

The purpose of Piped Links is to link directly to an article when the appropriate term is different from the actual page name.

In all of these cases, there is no purpose in using a piped link

  • Either "Spire" is correct, or the article should be renamed to "Spires"
  • Either "Extraction Facility" is correct, or the article should be renamed to "Extraction Facilities"
  • Either "Marshalling Ground" is correct, or the article should be renamed to "Marshalling Grounds"
  • Either "Chest" is correct, or the article should be renamed to "Chests"
  • Either "Pledge Rush" is correct, or the article should be renamed to "Pledge Rushes"

In two of those cases, the link has been incorrect for the entire year since you added them, while the displayed name was correct.

  • The link showed "Extraction Facilities" but linked to the non-existing "Extraction Facility"
  • The link showed "Marshalling Grounds" but linked to the non-existing "Marshalling Ground"

edit: I've also found that you did the same thing with the Hotspot and Tower links, so please also explain why you did this. 452, 2016-03-21T17:26:54Z (last edited: 452, 2016-07-01T06:31:54Z)

Javascript errorsEdit

Due to Wikia's backend javascript changes, User:TheMoonLightman/common.js should currently be giving you javascript errors due to this line

importScript('user:452/SaintsRow.js');

to fix this, replace it with

importArticles({ type: 'script', article: 'user:452/SaintsRow.js' });

Thanks.
I'll try to be more active here since I've got back into the game recently. And I hope I won't disappear without the warning in any time (sorry about that btw, that was stupid of me).

Replacing filesEdit

When replacing files of the same type, They should be replaced/ overwritten instead of deleted.

Please undelete the PNGs and merge them. 452, 2016-08-29T05:17:36Z

Done.

Reference terminologyEdit

I was just going to mention this in the chat, but I never seem to catch you.

You keep using the summary "naming ref" when you are adding a description.

Category:References needing descriptions and Category:References needing names are two different things.

For example, http://saintsrow.wikia.com/Police_Headquarters?oldid=317611 is in Category:References needing descriptions. 452, 2016-09-15T12:57:58Z (last edited: 452, 2017-08-10T18:34:12Z)

Woodpecker imageEdit

Do you still have your original File:Woodpecker (rear) SRTT.png?

Wikia messed up and lost the file, and I know from previous experience that they will not be able to restore it.

I may have the file backed up on an external harddrive, I'll look for it if you don't have the original anymore. 452, 2016-11-24T20:06:10Z (last edited: 452, 2017-02-16T19:00:31Z)

Unfortunately no, I don't have it saved anywhere.

Reference descriptionsEdit

You have added several references without descriptions, these have been listed on Category:References needing descriptions for over 2 years. Please add descriptions to all references you have added, and in future remember to include descriptions for all references.

It has been a year since you were asked to add descriptions to your references, yet you have not done so, so I will now add them myself. -452 23:57, December 15, 2017 (UTC)

N-ForcerEdit

Thanks for confirming the N-Forcer on PC!

In that case, I'm back to thinking that there's a step I'm missing.

Could you let me know the basic game state when you found it? Basically anything I asked about on User_talk:Konata_Inoue, such as missions complete?, DLC complete?, Hood owner? Or anything else you can think of that might be a factor?

Thanks! 452 02:11, February 23, 2019 (UTC)

I have only completed story missions. Didn't complete any side quests, DLC missions, no city takeover either (apart from mandatory).
So basically I've loaded the save file, started the mission right away and had the N-Forcer spawn on second try.
TheMoonLightman (talk) 02:18, February 23, 2019 (UTC)
Excellent! Can you confirm whether the specific territory where you found the N-Forcer was Saints or Zin? 452 02:31, February 23, 2019 (UTC)
Additionally, did you do the exact steps that are in the article? Smashing the N-Forcer on the ground and then throwing it? Do you think you could try a few times doing that step differently and working out whether it's necessary to do it exactly that way? 452 02:38, February 23, 2019 (UTC)
The territory was entirely under Zin control. As I mentioned earlier, I haven't done any optional city takeover activities apart from hacking Friendly Fire in Salander.
I followed the instructions from the article but I plan on redoing this method later using different means (i.e. no Telekinesis, etc.)
TheMoonLightman (talk) 03:06, February 23, 2019 (UTC)
Thanks for confirming. In my story-complete 360 game, I've done all takeover, so I'm currently suspecting that could be the issue. Since I did all takeover first, I'm going to half to play through almost the entire game again.
When you test things, could you try doing some takeover around the area and checking whether you can still trigger it when the area is under Saints control? If you can find it in a Saint controlled hood, then it will save me replaying on 360... but it will leave me out of ideas again. Unless it's a patch issue, I'll have to confirm I'm playing it fully patched at the moment.
In my loyalty-not-done and story-incomplete PC save, I haven't done takeover there yet, so I'll be playing through the rest of the game soon and hopefully replicate it on PC myself.
452 03:21, February 23, 2019 (UTC)
So I did a few more tests and found the best way (IMO) to spawn the N-Forcer (this method also worked with Stiletto):
  1. Start the mission
  2. Grab the vehicle with Telekinesis
  3. Destroy it (I've personally smashed it with Telekinesis like during the previous attempts)
  4. Get killed somewhere close to Loren Square (Sierra Point is the best location for this IMO) while holding the car wreck
  5. Exit the mission after dying
  6. The vehicle should appear parked somewhere near the hospital. Repeat the process if you don't succeed.
In summary, this method is similar to the one described in the N-Forcer article but personally this one works better for me.
Also for reference, I used the same save file (no city takeover or any side missions) so there is still more testing to do.
TheMoonLightman (talk) 02:31, February 28, 2019 (UTC)
Thanks! That's very interesting that we're back to the death+exit method, after Konata Inoue couldn't reproduce it and abandoned it. I suspect they were perhaps not destroying the vehicle before dying on their subsequent attempts.
Okay, I'm still not going to do further testing on 360 until it can be confirmed that it still works after the area is under Saints control.
452 12:56, February 28, 2019 (UTC)
More results:
  • Loren Square under Saints control - success on 1st attempt
  • Downtown under Saints control - success on 6th attempt
