Pretty small...[]

Steelport is not even half the size of Stillwater. Wtf? NT92 23:55, April 10, 2011 (UTC)

Where does it say that? Tom Talk 23:58, April 10, 2011 (UTC)
We do not know the scale of that map, although the docks shown in it make it look pretty bad. I'm going to wait for the game to be released before judging it. -452 00:00, April 11, 2011 (UTC)
I think it will be about the same size as Stilwater, the map may only show main roads which could be the reason it looks pretty small, i'm not too bothered about the map size, though i would like it to be about the same as Stilwater which i though was a good size, as long as the graphics are good and the city looks realistic then i'll be happy with it. Stilwater seemed a bit rushed and as a result the city seemed a bit arcadey to me. Tom Talk 00:06, April 11, 2011 (UTC)
After actually driving around Steelport, it definitely doesn't feel smaller than Stilwater. Comparing File:Low-detail promotional map of Steelport.png to File:Steelport highres.png is interesting. Once the buildings are filled in, the map looks a lot larger. --452 00:13, June 2, 2012 (UTC)

Easter Egg?[]

the map almost looks exactly like the map of libety city in GTA 4 (unsigned: 174.3.214.101 01:48, June 29, 2011)

It doesn't look like it to me.

I agree. It looks pretty much the same.68.149.6.11 19:03, July 24, 2011 (UTC)
It looks like a city. Once you look at a few different maps of cities, they all look pretty much the same. -452 02:49, July 25, 2011 (UTC)
That's odd, because some guys at a forum pointed out how they think it looks a lot like the GTA 3 map, but with the east and west islands being on the opposite sides. GMRE 11:17, October 21, 2011 (UTC)
Why is that odd? --452 11:51, October 21, 2011 (UTC)
I'm not sure.
Either way, most game cities have a lot of 90 degree street corners in them and they rely on islands to make the map more interesting. No wonder that some of them look a little similar. GMRE 12:09, October 21, 2011 (UTC)
I don't understand. Why did you state that it was odd? --452 12:27, October 21, 2011 (UTC)
One guy insists that it looks like one city and the other that it looks like a different one. It's the contradiction. GMRE 13:19, October 21, 2011 (UTC)
Then why did you say that you were not sure? --452 14:56, October 21, 2011 (UTC)
Oh I see what you're doing. Don't think I'm not seeing it, because I am. GMRE 17:33, October 21, 2011 (UTC)
You stated that something was odd, and then told me you were "not sure" why it was odd after I asked. I do not know what you think you are doing, but please stop it. --452 20:54, October 21, 2011 (UTC)

New part of the map revealed[]

I added it to the articles gallery.

Carver Island map with store and activity locations

Notice how:

  • The small island in the south-east is nolonger an island, like it is on the original (beta) map.
  • The two docks from the south are gone.
  • There's a new small island in the river.
  • The tiny little docks on the easten side of the north-to-south river are different (lamer).
  • But most importantly: Look closely at all the roads and bridges. The south-west island and the little island to its north are lighter. Could this mean that the others islands were still partly locked when this picture was taken?

GMRE 11:17, October 21, 2011 (UTC)

Urgh, the classic "locked islands", like Grand Theft Auto? I hope they haven't implemented something like that. – Moozipan Cheese(talk page) 14:38, October 21, 2011 (UTC)
I don't think they're completely locked. Some icons in the dark areas are more than question marks, so they must have been explored, unless some icons are in their final form by default. I guess those areas are just unexplored, or maybe they're unavailable for taking over? GMRE 17:33, October 21, 2011 (UTC)
They may well be locked. They've made the main plot into one story rather than three, meaning we can't choose which gangs to take down first, so that could give them an excuse to keep certain areas locked at first. But it probably just means unexplored. I don't mind anyway, i prefer it being one plot like GTA. EDIT: Actually, there are still icons in the darkened areas that indicate the player has been there, as well as "?" icons meaning yet to be discovered, so I bet the islands just go darker in the map when you are not actually on the island. NT92 17:38, October 21, 2011 (UTC)
Good points. When I think about it, I believe the first Saints Row darkened the neighborhoods before you had visited them, so you guys are probably right. – Moozipan Cheese(talk page) 18:40, October 21, 2011 (UTC)
I believe that number 2 did the same thing. VaultGuru 18:46, October 21, 2011 (UTC)
You're probably right on that! – Moozipan Cheese(talk page) 19:05, October 21, 2011 (UTC)
Indeed the map starts off dark in both games. In Saints Row 2, you get a "(neighborhood) explored" message on screen after revealing all question marks. Trying to read so much into screenshots is stupid. --452 21:01, October 21, 2011 (UTC)

Zombies[]

I was watching cherished memories 9 and it showed zombies in the actual city why is this ? does anybody know about it ? it has started to really annoy me. (Unsigned: Mandy2009 07:51, 11 November 2011)

Yeah, it takes place as part of a mission, according to a livestream V-Singular did a few days ago. Most likely "Zombie Attack", according to the Achievements list. – Moozipan Cheese(talk page) 14:32, November 11, 2011 (UTC)

Districts a reference to the HBO TV show The Wire?[]

In The Wire TV show that used to air on HBO (and its one of the top rated TV shows on IMDB) there is a character called Marlo Stanfield, another one named Howard 'Bunny' Colvin, and another named Ellis Carver. They all play like major parts in the show as well, I can't imagine the district naming is a coincidence, anyone know for sure what the deal is? Figured maybe this could be added to the Trivia area as I didn't see it posted anywhere on the Wiki but wanted to see if they were actually named for that reason or not. (unsigned: 184.18.207.125 07:51, November 30, 2011)

Sounds good to me, don't speculate, just add that 3 Districts share the names with 3 characters from The Wire, and list them. --452 11:27, November 30, 2011 (UTC)
Nice find, that definitely sounds too good to be a coincidence. – Moozipan Cheese(talk page) 23:17, November 30, 2011 (UTC)
Scott Phillips confirms this just over 15 minutes into this podcast. – Moozipan Cheese(talk page) 20:20, February 28, 2013 (UTC)
Nice find! -452 21:09, February 28, 2013 (UTC)

Bridges[]

I had previously overlooked this trivia item:

"After completion of the Trouble with Clones DLC the bridges surrounding the downtown district return to being lowered permanently."

Is this true? If so, that's a very dirty trick by Volition, leaving the bridges up at the end of the on-disc game, and requiring additional payment in order to lower the bridges permanently. --452 01:21, June 19, 2012 (UTC)

See Talk:Stunt_Jumps for extended discussion about the bridge problem. --452 22:50, July 16, 2012 (UTC)
