I would question the necessity of needing this article. It seems like this information would be present on other pages. - Wagnike2 23:20, July 4, 2010 (UTC)

Agreed. However, the same could be said for all vehicles and weapons. ;)
I propose renaming this article "Minor Characters", and incorporating all minor characters not influential to the storyline. These would include people on the radio, hitman targets, the activity people from this page, and any other background characters. -452 16:54, February 24, 2011 (UTC)
Minor Characters is a much better name than Characters met during activities, i'd say change it. Tom Talk 19:38, March 8, 2011 (UTC)

Minor Characters categoryEdit

13:20, February 25, 2011 Master Sima Yi (Talk | contribs) deleted "Category:Minor Characters" ? (We don't need this. "Non-story characters"? Everything is part of the story.)

I respectfully disagree. Darius Masters has nothing to do with the storyline. Yes, everything is part of the "fictional story" that is the Saints Row series, but some background characters have nothing to do with the plot, and are created to make Stilwater look like a living city.
Similarly, there are many buildings which have nothing to do with the Story. For instance, next to Image As Designed in the Saint's Row District, there is a hotel named "The Leonard". We know nothing about it except the name, and it has absolutely nothing to do with the storyline, but exists in the Saints Row Universe. There are minor buildings, minor brands, and minor Characters.
Examples of stub articles that I believe should be merged into larger articles: WTF17, Jack Armstrong, Pedro, Greg, Steven, [[[Payne & Co]] - I am not saying that these should be deleted, the information on these articles belongs on this wiki, but it belongs as part of larger articles. The 30 hitman targets in SR2 should be on a single "Hitman Targets" page, not on 30 stub pages. user:452 25 February 2011. (Originally located at Forum:Minor_Characters)

Roadmap for this article Edit

So other people can help, this is what my plan is for this page:
I drafted the list of characters on user:452/Minor_Characters (now deleted), but didn't do the full thing as I wasn't sure whether it would be used or not, and didn't want to waste the effort.
As per my discussion with User:Master Sima Yi, Category:Minor_Characters is to be eliminated. Every stub article currently tagged as Category:Minor_Characters, or linked from this page will be either merged into this page, or merged into the appropriate activities page. These Minor Character articles will be redirected to the page containing the most information - in the case of Characters met during activities, that will most likely be on each activity page, and that page will also be linked from here. (Although linking to the redirect page is also fine)
I'll be merging the Radio DJ articles into the appropriate station articles. Obviously DJ Veteran Child will remain a separate article. Hitman Targets will not be merged into this article, but onto a separate Hitman Targets page, as the Hitman article itself is already a fairly long article.
Some characters met during activities are also Homies or appear during the main storyline, so they will remain separate articles, but also be linked from this page so everyone is accounted for. -452 17:45, April 4, 2011 (UTC)
Each link in this article is deliberately an external link, because they are temporary links, which will be removed as each page is merged. Once merged, or accounted for as semi-major characters, the links will be changed to bold text, or to regular wikilinks.
I hope this makes everything clear, feel free to lend a hand :) -452 17:45, April 4, 2011 (UTC)

Many things have changed since I wrote this, so not everything I said still stands. Radio DJs have been merged and the Hitman Targets page has been created, but each individual target still has their own page. Since the Characters in X' pages are so long anyway, perhaps this article should be be deleted and merged with those pages. -452 21:14, July 7, 2011 (UTC)
I do still feel the exact same way about articles such as Miguel, he is not important to the plot, and only appears once, so he should just been mentioned on the Chop Shop article, with his name redirecting to there. Helmers, on the other hand, should have his own article as he appears in two games and people may be looking him up due to either of them. Perhaps that should be the rule of thumb? Appear once = only be mentioned in the article where they appear, appear twice = own article. -452 21:23, July 7, 2011 (UTC)
This kind of reminds me of the Call of Duty wikia's rule on granularity. There was a big discussion on that on a blog, and eventually it was decided it was a stupid rule because the rule wasn't specific, and too many stub articles were being created on very trivial, non-important items. In any case, it's not entirely relatable to this, but I find it's somewhat reminiscent.
After just spending about 10-15 minutes revamping the article on Billy, I want to say no, but it is probably for the best that such minor articles are deleted. There isn't a lot, if anything, to say on these people that merit them having an article, and if they have anything in particular to note, it could possibly be added to the Trivia section of whatever article they're merged with. Moozipan Cheese 21:36, July 7, 2011 (UTC)
Haha, well it was some nice work with the Billy article anyway. Don't worry, I spent a lot longer on this Minor Characters article, and now I'm proposing to delete it. ;)
I think they should have a section on the article's they're mentioned with, if there's anything to say. Like with Billy, we can keep the majority of the text as a section on the Drug Trafficking article, which doesn't currently have any info about the storyline. I think we should definitely keep redirects for valid names, and list Billy on the Characters in Saints Row 2 page, although I think that perhaps the merged characters from the Minor Characters page should probably just be in a Minor Characters section rather than having each name as a heading, what do you think? -452 22:05, July 7, 2011 (UTC)
Yes, without a doubt I agree. There's just no need to have so many two sentence-long articles, and merging them makes a lot of sense. Moozipan Cheese 22:28, July 7, 2011 (UTC)

External links Edit

At the time of the creation of the article, there was a reason that the links in the article were external links. External links allowing linking to an article while preventing the article from being removed from Orphan pages, which I was using as a guide to see which articles needed either work or merging. However, since all Orphaned articles have not been dealt with, there's no problem with the links being changed to internal links. -452 20:06, July 17, 2011 (UTC)

Merging Edit

I mentioned in an earlier comment about merging this article with the Characters in Saints Row X articles. I'm still thinking this is probably a good idea.
The main reason this article exists is because it's a renamed version of "Characters met during activities.
Is there any reason that the listings in this article shouldn't just be moved to the Characters in Saints Row X pages? -452 02:26, August 27, 2011 (UTC)

I've actually gone one step further and added the {{merge}} template at the top of the article. Anyway, yes, I feel there's absolutely no reason why these characters can't be listed in the other articles. —Message posted by Moozipan Cheese(talk page) 19:49, August 28, 2011 (UTC)
I started the merge a while ago, then forgot about it. Merge completed, page deleted. --452 00:54, October 27, 2011 (UTC)
I'd forgotten about this too. Nice to see it finally merged though. – Moozipan Cheese(talk page) 12:44, October 27, 2011 (UTC)

Poll Edit

After the original conversations regarding the merit of stub articles for minor characters, I started to question the merit of articles for people like Mark Gabby and Ramon, so I made a poll, with the options of keeping things as they are, reverting back to pages for every named character, and narrowing the scope of notability to the point where just one mission appearance isn't enough.
So far, the poll is showing that I was right to begin with, and the "current policy" option is winning: No page for cutscene-only characters, pages for in-mission characters.
It's nice to have confirmation that the most logical solution is agreed upon by others, but it would be nicer if more people would take part in the discussion and state their opinions either way.
I keep having to stress that "no information will be removed", because there's always someone who assumes that "no dedicated article" means "erase all mention of the subject". --452 14:09, November 29, 2011 (UTC)

Topic: Policy about characters in multiple cutscenes?

The age of the discussion is irrelevant - it needs a reply.
Remove this template after discussion has ended.

The minor character policy is a little blurred at the edges.
Characters who appear in only ONE cutscene have been merged, but characters who appear in multiple cutscenes are harder - because where should the information go?
Characters who only appear in one cutscene should be merged.
Some articles with characters who appeared in multiple cutscenes have been merged, others haven't.
Should the policy should be relaxed slightly to allow characters who have multiple cutscene appearances to have a dedicated article? Characters who fall into this grey area include Helmers, Katie, Vinnie and Blake. -452 (talk) 01:54, March 30, 2014 (UTC)

Where should what information go?
  • Helmers is easy, all the information about him is already on the Snatch page, so any additional information can also go there. There are several trivia items.
  • Katie can be safely split between the FUZZ and Corporate Meltdown articles. All that is needed is a line in the trivia of both articles mentioning the other cutscene.
  • Vinnie and Blake are already redirects, so there is nothing to do.
Either that or the policy should be clearly redefined as "2 cutscenes". -452 04:33, November 9, 2015 (UTC)
Perhaps it should. Nothing was ever done about this. Helmers and Katie still have articles, Vinnie and Blake do not. 452 18:17, October 13, 2019 (UTC)
Vinnie and Blake now have articles. 452 16:20, November 11, 2019 (UTC)
...wait a minute. This means the fucking Tiger gets an article! 452 02:07, November 12, 2019 (UTC)
