Mr. Wong is a character in Saints Row and Saints Row 2.

I do not joke about Sadie.
— Mr. Wong, regarding Shogo Akuji killing his dog.[2][3]

Overview[]

Saints Row[]

Mr. Wong is a Chinese businessman and mobster. He can speak some English, but usually talks in Mandarin, so he brings a Translator with him everywhere he goes. He is ruthless, which was shown when he shot his translator in the leg for having mistranslated him.[1] He hires Playa as a hitman to kill some people who harmed his family.

After Playa kills all the targets, Mr. Wong is unlocked as a Homie. He drives a Justice car and uses a T3K Urban and .44 Shepherd.

Saints Row 2[]

He was an old enemy of Kazuo Akuji, and hates Kazuo's son Shogo because many years ago he killed Mr. Wong's beloved dog, Sadie. After Playa and Johnny Gat kill Shogo, Wong comes to the Saints hideout to thank him, but they suddenly come under attack from Kazuo and the Ronin, who followed Wong there. Wong and the Saints manage to defeat them in a shootout, killing many Ronin, but Kazuo escapes.[4] Playa then assigns Gat as a bodyguard for Wong during a Chinese heritage festival, to Wong's mild annoyance. The remnants of the Ronin attack them and Kazuo and Wong finally have a confrontation. They engage in a violent sword duel on a burning boat, with Kazuo eventually emerging as the victor; Wong manages to survive and escape the inferno. After Playa defeats the Ronin leader, they call Wong and give him the pleasure of hearing his mortal enemy's screams of pain.[5]

Trivia[]

  • In Saints Row 2, Playa mentions Mr. Wong used to have him "runnin' around killin' guys in hotdog suits..."[2], a reference to Mr. Wong's Hitman list in Saints Row, in which the target "Bucky" wears a hotdog suit.
  • Even though Mr. Wong speaks Mandarin, indicating Mainland Chinese origin, his name is actually the Cantonese spelling of the common Chinese name "Wang".
  • In Saints Row 2, when Mr. Wong speaks Mandarin, there are no subtitles, with all translations coming from his Translator. However, Wong's Mandarin dialogue has translated subtitles in the Russian version of the game.[4][5]
  • Considering his apparent age, Mr. Wong is in good health since he can run, sprint and fight.
  • Wong's appearance (particularly his hat and quilted green-black tunic) is identical to that of Angelo Rossitto in the 1939 movie Mr. Wong in Chinatown, while his name is that of Boris Karloff's character in the same movie.
  • Mr. Wong has a daughter.[6]

Quotes[]

Since Mr. Wong is Chinese and prefers to speak Mandarin rather than English, he speaks many Chinese phrases if called as a Homie. Since Chinese is a very "flexible" language with multiple meanings, a lot of what Mr. Wong says also has multiple meanings, especially depending on context.
