Improvised Weapons

Improvised Weapons, also known as Props, are objects in Saints Row 2 which can be used as a Melee Weapons.

Overview

Although at first limited in what the player can actually buy and take from Civilians and enemies, many ambient items around Stilwater are now usable as weapons, although their effectiveness is less than that of a real Melee Weapon. These items cannot be bought, and cannot be stored in the Weapons Cache.

Improvised Weapons can either be swung, or thrown, but will break after several uses. It is possible to do a charged attack by holding down the attack button, which can drastically change the attack animation for some weapons. For example, the standard attack with a "wood post" is to lunge with the end, but a charged attack will swing the post instead.

Killing someone with an Improvised Weapon earns Diversion stars for the Brutality Combat Trick.

Attacks

There are 4 sets of attacks, depending on the type of object.

1-hand - normal attack is overhead swing, charged attack is long swing
2-hand - normal attack is swing, charged attack is uppercut
2-hand low (long) - normal attack is thrust, charged attack is swing
2-hand high (heavy) - normal attack is swing, charged attack is overhead.

Heavy objects are held above The Protagonists head, and even a standard attack has a short recovery time, due the weight of the object.

Bones

The Bones are an improvised Weapon and Easter Egg. It looks like the hockey mask worn by Jason Voorhees in the Friday the 13th movie series.

It is located at the lake on Mount Claflin, in a small crevice filled with trees.^[1]
When taken away from its original area, it turns into a human skull.

Basketball

Basketballs are available in multiple locations around Stilwater, including inside the Marshall Winslow Recreation Center, near the Church of Cheese in New Hennequet, and inside the Brotherhood hideout in Poseidon Alley.

They have a special running and throwing animation, the button usually used to swing an Improvised weapon throws the ball instead. There are usually basketball hoops nearby, but while it is possible to get the ball inside the ring, it is not possible to get the ball all the way through, and there is no reward.

Trivia

Improvised Weapons are not available in Saints Row or Saints Row: The Third.
The Protagonist will throw an Improvised weapon away if a compliment or taunt is used.
The name "liquor bottle" is defined as being a name for an Improvised Weapon, but there is no object that uses that name and all bottles in the game are named "bottle" instead.
